1 stick of 8gb flash drives i dont have set to be bootable because u have the system fully powered down, and there a smaall button on the bottom left hand corner of the mobo and it powers up one usb port to read the bios file from renamed the file to M5A99FX.CAP even tryed renaming it so it was all lower case the 6300 is support from bios version 1006 and up, same with the 8350 this is buggin the hell outta me, just got it today:/ i've contacted the company i brought it from, and also asus, still no reply from them but then again u do tend to get my reliable tech support off forums lol. I have the same asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 board with a amd 4.6 am3+ fx processor, 2 x asus hd7980radeonvideos setup in crossfire and 4 x 8 gig corsair vengeance 2133 ram. IT HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUES I returned it and processor and corsair 2133 ram 8 gig for new stuff and it has the same problems as the previous ones. Cpu red light comes on immediately on power up and fans nothing else. And the direct bios update wont work from the usb. I think it has to be enabled in the bios settings to work and you cant get to bios because of cpu error.i tried everything I know, barebones everything unplugged 1 mem 2 mem 4 mem diff brand mem, diff video, bootable usb data usb,you might try another cpu that works, look and change settings then try again. I`m screwed previous computers were all intels.
Lol really stinks too have 2 grand of atm useless parts I cant use lo update its running now got a friends 8120fx booted flashed bios good to go. By the way my real issue direct flbk option disable in bios for some reason, manual says the default is enabled but mine was disabled on arrival.
The design of the ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 is aimed to be uset with the new Windows 8. Featuring Dual Intelligent Processors 3 with New DIGI+ Power.
Hi there, I'm buying this motherboard tomorrow so please tell me how to update the BIOS using the USB method. This is my spec: AMD fx-6300 ASUS M5A99FX PRO R2.0 Corsair Vengeance DDR3 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) PC RAM (CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9R) Seasonic S12II 620 Watts PSU. I know that I need to download BIOS version 1006 but don't know what it should be renamed to and put in which folder. And what is the fuss about.ROM and.CAP BIOS files? Should I be worried about this for my mobo?
Also how will I know the current BIOS version on my mobo without connecting it to monitor? Download the version of the bios you need, and then drop the.cap/.rom file onto a usb drive. Then head into your BIOS and get to the Flash BIOS option.
Select the flashdrive with the new BIOS file on it and click install. Make sure you don't interrupt the flashing process or you may brick your motherboard Is that it?
The BIOS file I downloaded has.CAP extension. Thanks for the reply! This is my first build so I want to make sure. Yes the.CAP file is your BIOS file. You can find more detailed instructions for flashing the BIOS in your manual. The current bios for that board is 1903.
You're probably referring to the USB bios flashback that lets you flash the bios without booting in.It will be detailed in the mobo manual, or if you want to get a leg up before the board comes, here's the manual online, go to section 2.2.1, it has what you need: Please tell me if this is the correct procedure because the manual says no OS required in the beginning and then asks to install USB Flashback wizard from the mobo DVD - it is confusing: - Place the BIOS file (.CAP) into flashdrive. Rename it to M5A99FX.CAP - Stick it to the proper port and press the flashback button for 3 seconds till it blinks. (with powered on of course) Thanks for the reply! (with powered on of course) Thanks for the reply! If you are purchasing the board new then it should come with the latest BIOS.
I did not have to update BIOS. It was more than 1006 when I bought it. Thanks for the replies! Hope everything turned out fine. One quick question brother. I have the asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 and the amd fx 6300 combo like you as well. Coupled with an amd 7970.
But i get very bad performance iv tried switching with an nvidia gtx 760 OC, but still get bad performance. Like in tf2 i get not over 90 fps and in far cry 3 i geet about 30-40 fps. Please tell me if you experienced this and if you have a fix. I did not have to update BIOS.

Thankyou =) Sorry man. I do not have any issues with the build. I have gtx 660 OC 2GB. If you think yours is not up to the mark, then i suggest you start a new thread so that you get more replies. I'm sure you already did but just a suggestion. The current bios for that board is 1903.
